More and more often the owners of garden plots shift their focus from the possibilities of growing fruits and vegetables to the decoration of their land, garden plot design. They earn money in the city, and come to the dacha to relax. Of course, fruit trees and shrubs, vegetable beds – all this can be present, but they are subject to the rules of landscape design. To entrust the project to a professional – it seems great … but from the hands of professionals often come out too orderly, cold landscapes. Self-designed gardens, though not ideal, but much cozier and feel much better in them.

Where to start: planning

Everything starts from the stove: you need to correlate your desires with the realities. To do this, first sit down and write down what you need on the plot. Just a list of what you and your family want to have. Then take a plan of the site with dimensions and begin to place what you just can not refuse. Usually it is a playground or a carport for the car, some kind of vegetable garden – at least a few beds, if there are children – a playground.

Sort of, these are all the main objects. If you managed to fit them all into the site plan – great: you can plan garden paths. You need to manage and make a minimum number of paths, but they should connect all the main buildings. Paths can lead to auxiliary buildings. It’s even more romantic that way. And as you go, look for places for flowerbeds, flower beds, alpinariums, decorative slides. You can even purposely bend the paths to carve out a place for a flower bed. This, by the way, one of the favorite techniques of professionals. They generally flat lines are almost never used. Only in elongated areas to visually approximate the far edge.

Do not forget about trees and shrubs. They, by the way, can serve as a screen for an unsightly fence. And you will have it all around the perimeter. Partly it will be possible to decorate it with hanging flowerbeds, partly covered with trees and shrubs. While the trees will grow, you can put a lattice in front of the fence, on which to let curly roses, clematis, any other similar plant.

Garden design: choosing a style

In most cases, the style of garden design is very difficult to determine. Most often it can be characterized as “modern”. Interesting solutions of different “nationality” and different style directions are used, and sometimes these combinations are very and very successful and interesting. That and good independent design that intuitively you can create the most beautiful landscapes. But to decorate the site in a certain style in a sense easier: you know exactly whether this idea will fit or not. Let’s look at some options for designing a garden plot in a certain style. It is easiest to work with ethnic directions.

Oriental

Chinese and Japanese cultures have significant differences, but regarding the design of the garden plot to a layman it is difficult, almost impossible to distinguish between these two directions. For ease of perception combine them into one style: oriental.

For these cultures is inherent in achieving maximum harmony. What is good design of a garden plot in the Japanese or Chinese style, is that they use a lot of crushed stone and pebbles. If pebbles are hard or expensive to get in the right amount, then the crushed stone is much less of a problem. Maybe you will be lucky, and you can even agree on the color – meticulous Japanese in the backfill use pebbles of the same size and color, or form them into different shapes.

Large stones, near which are planted boxwood bushes, traditional shape of a small fountain. Very interesting idea with a border of painted crushed stone. Only if you will do something like this, make sure that the water that runs off the formwork, was where to go: under the pebbles and rubble should be dense soil with a slope towards the plantings or exit to the drainage system – it is who has how organized water drainage.

To design a garden plot in the Japanese style was really traditional, you can use bamboo. A small fence and a wicket gate are made extremely simply. A couple of stakes are driven into the ground, bamboo crossbars are tied to them, and thin bamboo is tied to the crossbars. The result is a kind of bamboo fence.

The paths are very characteristic – rounded stones at a distance from each other, slabs of stone, or even concrete slabs, but they are not square, as we are used to, but long. Note that the spaces between the stones/slabs are overgrown with grass, moss, or filled with pebbles.

Rustic style (rural or country)

The more urbanized become our cities, the more we want something simple, natural, without sharp lines and edges, which and in the city are already boring. That’s why many people have started to build houses from logs: they are so and smells cozy. If your country house is built of logs, the natural continuation of the idea will be the design of the site in rural or rustic style. In this case, the characteristic features – the use of all kinds of old utensils and its elements in the decoration of flowerbeds and flower beds, fences made of wicker, simple benches, often intentionally rough, made of logs.

On a rustic plot can not be all too smooth and orderly. Paths – overgrown with grass, with stones laid for convenience, abandoned boardwalks. Even the toilet can be made in the same style. It is, of course, hardly anyone will be brought to the foreground, even in a stylish version, but also too much care that the construction was not visible will not have to.

Garden plot in a modern style or modern style

The design of the garden plot in the modern style is international. In it, elements of different cultures are decent. The main rule is a harmonious combination of shapes and shades. Most often straight lines and rounded shapes are combined.

Is it difficult to create such a corner in your own garden. Tiles can be replaced with concrete or stone slabs or wooden decking, the main thing is that the geometry is preserved. The flowerbeds are unusually shaped – flat edges both at ground level and high. Between two high flowerbeds installed seats, and to be really comfortable and convenient, you can make the curb higher and nail a board – a backrest. All this cubism is broken by a round ceramic pot with a plant. Instead of a pot, you can make a small fountain in the form of a stone ball, on which the water flows.

As you can see, the fountain is close in style to the Japanese style. Slightly modified it fits perfectly into the modern design of the garden. And this is not the only stylized element. For example, wicker furniture is often used. But it has a different shape – either cubic or with curved surfaces, but only in one plane. And again, pay attention, rigid straight lines are broken by rounded ones: on the bottom photo these are pyramidal tui, on the top – a round table-bed (an extraordinary solution, by the way) and curved lines of armchairs.

Here is where the lovers of high beds are at ease, so it is exactly when decorating in this way: smooth lines are more convenient to set with the help of tall boxes. They are made of wood, stone, concrete. The material should be combined with the main decoration or be a complement.

Approximately in the same traditions are decorated in the yard and grounds near the pond. Make a deck of planks, planken or decking, put characteristic furniture – part of the garden is decorated.

Ideas for fence and walls

No matter how you look at it, but there is always a fence. And far from always he is not always a decoration of the garden. More often it’s the opposite: it’s the owner’s headache: how to camouflage it or make it look more acceptable. There are actually quite a few solutions, and for different tastes.

If you know how to draw, and the fence is at least relatively flat, paint it with some scenes. It is clear that it is not easy to choose a suitable plot, but you can rely on the general style of design of the site.

You can use the fence as a fence for a vertical flowerbed or vegetable garden. It is beautiful and useful. Especially pleased with this idea owners of small plots. But only a fence made of profiled sheet so can be used only if the summer in your region cool. In all other cases, plants burn on it.

Approximately the same idea comes in handy for decorating the wall of the house. Only here more often plant flowers, and mostly ampelic, but nothing can prevent you from planting in such baskets or boxes, say aromatic herbs or just beautiful flowers in the bottom tier, and on top let there be dangling branches of ampelic.
