The presence of a shower in a house or apartment – it has long been a necessity. Especially since the size of shower cabins allows you to make them even in the smallest space.

Minimum and optimal dimensions
The smallest shower cabins have dimensions of 70*70 cm, slightly more spacious – 80*80 cm. Both of them are too cramped. You can only go in, turn on the shower and stand. Even to soap up is a problem, because you can’t spread your elbows. You can bend over for something only by opening the doors and half sticking out of the tray. And this is with a normal build. Such compact shower cabins are too inconvenient and they are usually placed in low class hotels.
At the size of 90*90 cm there is already freedom of action. You can move your hands without the risk of breaking the doors or crashing into the wall with your elbow. You can even sit down. Not everyone will be able to bend over – it is still a bit cramped. With the size of the shower cabin 100*100 cm even large people feel free, any movement is no problem here. But the price of cabins with a wall of 90 cm and 100 cm differs almost twice. So the optimal size can be considered 90*90 cm. It is spacious enough and the price does not “stress”.
By the way, rectangular or asymmetrical – with one wall 90 cm and the second 100-120 cm – occupy the same amount of space, and by feeling much more comfortable than 100*100 cm. Such dimensions, exactly in terms of the square, are not too practical. It is too hard to make a comfortable layout. Unless you have a lot of space in the bathroom or the layout is such that the square fits better than other shapes.
How to determine the convenient size for you
All recommendations are designed for the “average” person, but not everyone fits into this framework. It is not so difficult to determine the size of the shower cabin that is convenient for you. Two elementary actions – stand up straight, bend your arms at the elbows and put them aside with your hands at your sides. Measure the distance from elbow to elbow. To the received figure add 5-10-15 cm. Here and get what size cabin will be comfortable for you. And choose the shape of the available free space.
The height is considered by the level of the “ceiling” in a closed stall or the upper edge of the doors in an open (without a roof). There are standard, or rather, the most common options: 195, 200, 210 and 215 cm. There are also higher, but this is already “non-standard”.
Dimensions of corner cabins
Corner cabins for shower – the most acceptable option in small bathrooms. With such an installation, the space is used most rationally. In addition, this option allows you to save money and buy a half-cabin – two walls are already there. Although, with all the walls is easier in terms of ensuring tightness.
The shape of the corner shower cabin can be different. Square, rectangle, polygonal – with five or seven walls, with round doors, asymmetrical. Choose a form with the aim of what better fit into the layout. So, for example, pentastenok is convenient that the door pulls away to the side, not open forward (although, there are such) and the exit is obtained at an angle, almost to the center of the bathroom, and not “in one of the walls”. The same can be said about the corner cabin with round doors, but in this version the doors are only sliding.
Rectangular and square ones should be fitted based on where the door opens. They are ideal in niches or if they are from wall to wall, and you do not want to make a shower stall from tiles. Asymmetrical ones are not suitable for small rooms. Although, they can help in long and narrow bathrooms. In general, the shape of the shower stall is chosen based on the layout of the bathroom. Next, let’s talk about the dimensions of corner cabins of each shape.
Dimensions of a corner shower cabin with five walls
Polygonal cabins, as already said, are convenient in that the entrance is opposite the corner. That is, enter/exit in the middle of the bathroom. It should be empty in any case. In the sense that there is no furniture or plumbing. The door can be sliding or swinging. They can also be single or consist of two parts.
With the dimensions of a polygonal corner cabin is not so simple. In the specification, the dimensions of those sides that go along the wall are usually put down. The dimensions of the front part consist of several sections. After all, the front in this case is a broken line. So, these dimensions have to be taken from the description or drawing. Some, the most common dimensions of pentagonal shower cabins, brought together in a table.

As you can see, even with the same length of the cabin on the walls, the dimensions of the front part can be different. Very often one of the sides is longer and the other is shorter. Such placement of doors is more convenient, since square bathrooms do not seem to exist in nature. And the outlet offset to the side is a salvation for rectangular bathrooms.
Dimensions of square and rectangular shower cubicles
With square and rectangular showers, everything is simple. At square all walls have the same size, at rectangular the opposite walls have the same length. In the name of the shower cabin write 90×90, 80×80, 80×100. These are the outer dimensions of the cabin in centimeters. The internal ones will be slightly smaller. How exactly – depends on the design solution, but a couple of centimeters can subtract exactly. And specifically look in the plan of the selected model.

90х110 | 90 | 110 | 90*110 |
90х120 | 90 | 120 | 90*120 |
These are not all the sizes of shower cabins of square or rectangular section, but those that are more common. Options, in general, a lot. But only compact – with a wall of 70 cm are usually presented only in a square version. Rectangular cabins with a side of 70 cm are not so common, but you can find 70*80 cm, 70*90 cm and 70*100 cm.
If desired, you can find sizes not divisible by 10 cm. That is, 95*95 cm, 96,5*96,5 cm, 92*92 cm. But such a variety, usually Chinese production. Not all goods from the Celestial Empire are of poor quality. But you know that you need to look very carefully almost to the tooth, trying all the parts and components.
Dimensions of shower cabins with rounded front panel
The type of shower cabins with round doors is sometimes called “quarter”, because it represents one fourth of a circle. In the description, the dimensions of shower cabins of this type are spelled out in the same way as in the previous variants: 90×90 or 80×80. These are the dimensions of the cabin along the walls. In fact, this means that the front wall is curved with a radius of 90 cm and 80 cm, respectively.
From the outside it seems that they are too small. The photo shows a variant with the length along the walls of 80 cm. The impression is that it will be uncomfortable, but it only seems so. Ninety centimeters is enough to feel at ease with an average build. The sizes of shower cabins with rounded doors are not characterized by diversity. Only three variants are widely represented:
- 80*80 cm;
- 90*90 cm;
- 100*100 cm.
All the others are quite rare. In catalogs you can find up to 150*150 cm, but they will have to be ordered. Just everything that is more than a meter – it is already a rather large and bulky unit. It practically does not fit into a standard bathtub. Or rather, if it does, then only a cubicle. The washbasin will have to be carefully selected by size or look for a corner and put it in the opposite corner.
There are models of irregular shape. In the sense that the front panel is not part of a circle, but part of an ellipse. In plan it looks like a “piece” of an oval” (on the photo on the left).
Asymmetrical shower cabins
Asymmetrical are usually called shower cabins in which one of the sides is longer and rounded doors, one of the sides is long. Exactly such on sale can still be found. There is also “full” asymmetry. In the sense that the shape can be absolutely any. But these are already piece products of expensive brands, not something that is put on the stream. Their price tag is corresponding.

In models of this type, you can most often meet the size of 120*80. This is the optimal size, which does not take up a lot of space, but you do not feel cramped inside. Even two people can fit if desired or necessary.
All models are produced in two types. Since one of the sides is longer, there is a right and left version. Right, this is when the stall is attached to the right wall. Left, respectively, to the left.
Wall-mounted shower cabins and their dimensions
Owners of spacious bathrooms can not save space. In a large bathroom, you can put a wall shower. This is when only one wall of the stall is nestled against the wall, and three are free. Such cabins are either rectangular or asymmetrical. And the long side is pressed against the wall.

As you can see, there are square and rectangular. And they can be both with straight face walls, and with rounded.
The depth of the tray
Shower cabin – it is not necessarily a set of walls + tray + roof. You can buy only walls, make a pallet of tiles. You can take a set. But in it, the height of the shower tray is fixed and you do not have to choose. In general, the height of the shower tray can be from 3.5 cm and up to 55 cm. They are conditionally divided into three groups:
- shallow – from 3.5 cm to 13 cm;
- from 14 cm to 25 cm;
- deeper than 25 cm.
Without special necessity, less than 8-10 cm should not be taken. The curb will be too small and with a clogged drain (which, unfortunately, is not uncommon), you can miss the moment when the water flows to the floor. So if possible, consider a border height of at least 12-15 cm. In some shower trays, by the way, you can find an overflow system.
A special need is for family members with sore feet. The pallet after all will have to be raised, since it is necessary to make a drain from the shower cabin. So the height will be considerable. In this case, it is better to put a low drain, but take a higher edge. After all, the flood is a terrible threat, which entails serious consequences.
Too deep trays – it is almost a bathtub. Especially since the sizes are not insignificant: 80*120 cm, and a depth of 52 cm – what you do not have a bathtub. Semi-sitting so exactly. And in terms of shape shower trays are all those listed above: square, rectangular, with a radius wall, polygonal and asymmetrical. Yes, and the dimensions are exactly the same. So there is no point in repeating.
Man, I just upgraded my shower enclosure, and it’s a game changer! Went for a sleek corner unit that fits perfect. The sizes really matter—totally transformed my tiny bathroom vibes! Love how it feels spacious now. Everyone should consider the shapes and sizes when redesigning!
