Bathroom curtain rod (curtain rod)

To prevent water from splashing out while showering, glass doors or a special curtain are placed near the bathtub or shower tray. It is not always possible to put doors, and it is expensive, and the curtain only needs a ledge for the bath or shower. Call it a rod, holder, crossbar, there are some other variants of names, but all this is one simple device – a rod for a curtain in the bathroom. Its shape is chosen depending on the type of bathtub or shower tray and the way they are installed (at the wall, in the corner, freestanding).

Materials

The rod for a curtain in the bathroom can be made of plastic and metal. Plastic curtain rods are the most inexpensive. They are light, do not change color, do not rust, easy to care for. The only thing that can happen to them – they can sag, but such a nuisance happens very rarely. Only if the curtain rod is made from a plastic pipe with a very thin wall or from low-quality plastic. This, fortunately, does not occur very often.

Make a holder for a curtain in the bathroom from metal. It can be a thin-walled steel pipe. Ordinary metal is covered with paint or a layer of zinc (galvanized). They are inexpensive, but the paint, and galvanizing, rather quickly tears off. It begins to rub off from the movement of the rings, on which the rod is fixed, after which rust quickly leads it into disrepair.

Curtain rods for curtains in the bathroom are also made of stainless steel or aluminum alloy. If they are made of aluminum or normal stainless steel, they serve for a very long time without changing color and shape. The disadvantage is the high price (compared to other types).

Included with the “stick” for the curtain comes a certain number of rings or hooks. They, too, can be made of plastic or metal and usually match in color. But not always the “regular” set moves well. In cheap models, the diameter of the holder can be larger than the diameter of the ring. As a result, they move with difficulty. There is another problem – metal rings make a rather loud sound, which can be annoying. In any case, you can buy other rings. A larger diameter or from a different material. In order to accurately match the color, take the old ones with you and present them in the store. Then you will not be mistaken in size or color.

Shape and method of installation

Bathroom curtain rod can be installed in several ways. The way of installation depends on the design of the rod itself and where and how it should be attached.

Telescopic rods for bathroom curtains

In small bathrooms, telescopic rods are installed. In this case, the holder consists of two pipes of different diameters. One tube enters the other, at the desired distance is fixed. There are several models. In some, the position is fixed with a clamp (threaded sleeve), in others – with the help of a spring inserted inside.

At the ends of the telescopic curtain rod there are thickenings that rest against the walls and hold the curtain due to the force of friction. This option is good because it is easy to install/dismantle and there is no need to make holes in the finish. But it can be installed only if the bathtub is rectangular and stands along a short wall.

Corner

Corner or L-shaped and U-shaped curtain rod. These are suitable for square shower trays that are installed in a corner (L-shaped) or against one of the walls (U-shaped). These rods have caps on the ends with holes for fasteners. The type of fasteners is chosen depending on the walls (self-tapping screws for wooden walls, dowels for brick and concrete, special dowels-butterflies for drywall partitions. Some models for greater stability provide for the presence of suspension from the ceiling – usually a steel wire, with a ceiling mount.

There are also holders curved in the form of an arc. They are suitable for corner shower trays. They are mounted in exactly the same way. There are no special differences and difficulties.

Cornices of complex shapes

The bathroom can have an unusual shape. To ensure that the shower curtain protects well from splashes, the curtain rod must repeat this shape. There are two options – look for a suitable one or use a flexible curtain rod. If you set a goal, you can find a shower ledge oval or round. Since such bathtubs usually stand not at the walls but in the middle of the room, such curtain holders are attached to the ceiling.

Other complex shapes with bends can be made from a flexible curtain rod. It is a set of two to three meter sections of aluminum profile. Aluminum is a malleable metal that holds a given shape well. You bend these sections as you need, trim them if necessary, and connect them with special couplings. Then it’s just a matter of installation.
