What seems to be wrong when children have a lot of toys? And the fact that they are scattered all over the rooms and their owners do not really like to collect them. Proper storage of toys in the apartment or house – the key to order and peace of mind (mom first of all) because even simple maintenance of order in this case – a task of increased complexity. It can and should be facilitated. To do this, you need furniture for children’s toys – racks, shelves or closet, as well as a decent number of boxes, boxes, bags and bags.

Furniture for storing toys in the nursery

Furniture in a child’s room is needed from the first days of life. And most often it is a dresser and shelving unit. Only at first they are occupied mainly by linen and children’s clothes, and toys take up a little space. But gradually funny things – rattles, bears, cars, dolls, etc. is becoming more and more, they require a separate place, and sometimes not one.

The most convenient option – a rack. Not a closet with doors, but a rack with open shelves, which can stand boxes. Storage of toys in this form is optimal – and it is convenient for the child to get them, and to clean them quickly.

At first you can buy or make one rectangular rack and preferably with square cells. Now you will understand why.

While the child is small, it can be put “lying down” – as in the photo, the long side on the floor. So for a small child is more convenient – he will first master what is at the bottom, then move to the upper shelves. And safer – older children can use the shelves as a ladder, and in this position will not climb high)))

In a couple of years, the child will grow up, the toys will be more. You can turn the rack and put it “in height”, and on the vacated space to install a second or make shelves. Combining several racks of different heights will get a child’s toy storage system.

Immediately take into account that wooden boxes (or from plywood, chipboard and other similar materials) for small children – not the best option. They are too heavy, trying to get toys children often injure their fingers. They also have hard injury-prone corners, which can, of course, a little rounded, but still they remain rigid. Such boxes are suitable for schoolchildren. They already have more strength and coordination is better developed. And storage of toys for kids is better to organize in softer and not so traumatic plastic containers/baskets or in dense boxes, pasted with colored paper or fabric.

These are long narrow shelves on which the entire fleet is placed. More options – transparent pockets on the fabric (sold as shoe storage systems) or a shelf assembled from plastic pipes.

To stimulate the desire to “drive” cars in the garage, on the floor you can paint tape to make a marking on which “after the shift” they drive into the parking lot.

In principle, such pockets can be used to store collections of dolls and soft toys.

When the places on the shelves and racks in the nursery is no longer enough, you need more ideas. In addition to pockets you can make drawers (large) under the bed or table.

That in large drawers do not lie all in bulk, under the little things can be put plastic baskets. So everything will be found faster than in the general pile.

Boxes can be installed in racks not only on shelves: it is possible to hang them. To do this, grooves are cut in the side walls, in which the sides of baskets and baskets are simply inserted. Baskets can be taken plastic (if you find one with sufficiently rigid sides), and you can take metal – from the set of closets or closets.

The largest free surfaces in the room are the walls. They can be used. For example, attach a strip of Velcro to the wall (side wall of the closet, lamp shade, etc.). Soft toys on the backs sew also small pieces of such tape. They will be easy to hang in place and remove. And the decor at the same time will become more diverse.

You can borrow an idea from the kitchen: attach different bags to the horizontal pipe. To make the necks stiffer, you can tighten them with hoops or sew elastic wire.

Pockets are made and on wooden bases. It can be cut from plywood, painted, nail a few hooks, pockets and bags. Mini toy storage system is ready.

But not everything can be attached to the walls. Some things require baskets or drawers. For example, sporting equipment – all the balls, balls and other equipment. They can be conveniently stored in wire garbage cans.

If you want, you can attach the baskets to the walls and practice hitting a ball into the basket (away from breakable objects and windows).

Storage of toys from the category of “cheap and surly” – folding cloth baskets. They, of course, are inexpensive, look good, but very quickly torn. Especially the mesh ones: the toy got caught, the child pulled it…. holes.

No matter how hard parents try, children do not really want to clean toys. Or rather, do not want at all. In this sense, just perfect option bag-pad.

This is an ingenious solution: on the edge of the round mat sewn a small height “wall”, on its upper edge made a wader, in which the cord is pulled through. To remove the toys, you just need to tighten the cord. The edges of the mat will lift up and the mat will turn into a bag.

Then these bags can be put somewhere near the wall or hung on special hooks. Really ideal option.

Boxes for toys with their own hands

Looking at the not at all childish prices for cute wicker or plastic baskets in stores, you think that the idea of making colored boxes for toys with your own hands is not so bad. You will need cardboard boxes of dense (not corrugated) cardboard, most likely from under household appliances. You can try your luck with your friends: many manufacturers provide warranty repair only in the presence of packaging. So people keep boxes. The warranty period has long passed, but they forgot to throw away the packaging. These boxes are the best option for children.

Another option is to ask in industrial stores. They also often receive goods in rigid packaging. For example, in such come diapers, wipes, etc.

Gluing paper

Cut off the lid from the found boxes. In the side walls (narrow) cut holes for handles. All joints are glued from the inside with scotch tape.

Take colorful paper. Perfectly suitable wrapping paper, in which they pack gifts. It is dense, there is a large number of different patterns. You can also use scrapbooking paper. If the trim will be made of paper of different colors, cut into strips of equal width, if we glue will be one picture, measure the strip at the height of the box.

Take glue (PVA), brush the surface of the box and start gluing from the corner. We try to glue without bubbles, smoothing the paper gradually, from edge to edge. We put the next sheet with a small overlap with the previous one. So, until we glue all the surfaces.

After looking at the light, cut out the handles with scissors. To make the edge was more neat, glue the cut edges of the handle with a thin strip of paper. The same strip decorate the top cut.

Covering with fabric

In this case, all the corners of the box can be taped on both sides – it will serve longer. Next, take the fabric and cut out the dimensions of the box two sets of blanks. One strictly according to the dimensions, plus seam allowance, the second 1 cm less and also with an allowance. At the seams add 0.5-1 cm on each side. You can cut the workpiece at once with the form of a cross, but so the expense of fabric is more – individual pieces more economical)))

Sew the parts first in the form of a cross, then making a bag from the blank. Try on the box. One (the bigger one) is stretched outside, the second one is spread inside.

Now take universal glue and glue the fabric around the perimeter of the bottom inside and outside. Then glue around the corners. This way the fabric will not shift.

The edges of both bags are tucked inside and the box is hand-stitched around the perimeter.

Use scissors to cut through the handles. Just do not cut out large pieces. You should leave about 1 cm of “extra” fabric. We wrap it inside, sewing the handle.

Having formalized the handles, we get a ready-made box for storing toys.
